What to wear for family photos...
Neutrals are Timeless
-
Tans, cream, light blue, or even muted red/yellows look great any season and work with many different locations.
-
Think about the setting you’re likely to be in (greens may not stand out in grassy locations; dark or bright colors may work well in urban or with stone/concrete backgrounds).
-
Bright colors near the face and neon can cast color onto the skin.
Create Interest, and Choose patterns carefully
-
Add texture when possible (eyelet details, stitching, layered looks).
-
Limit one person in the group to wearing a bold pattern.
-
More people can wear a muted pattern (such as a small floral or stripe).
Think about how pieces work as a whole
-
Use variety in light and dark items. Use denim sparingly- but chambray and lighter denim tops can be a coordinating option.
-
Think about coordinating pieces vs. matching exactly (complimentary or adjacent colors on the color wheel).
Add pieces which allow Lighting and Movement interest
-
Pieces that allow light to pass through (i.e. sheer or lace) and skirts which move can add dimension to your photos.
Keep comfort in mind!
-
Being able to sit on the ground and walk on various terrain increases the versatility of the shots that can be taken.
